"When I can't recognize a thing I will have arrived."
In late 2015 I improvised a series of ‘takes’, without plot or script. I followed a pile of notes, images and quotations which I then threw away. I shot with people I admire, performing actions found on the spot. I had them count so that I could overdub later, with anyone, including the performer. I was looking for what, if anything, would emerge if I worked with the minimum of authorial control, if a ‘world’ would form of itself, without oversight, as our world does.
I’ve been staring down this material for a year in the hope that something will leap out at me. All I see is that a plot is forming, i.e. a group of people are plotting, in disguise.
