Linnaea Tillett Lighting Design in collaboration with Tillett and Rauscher Inc. were invited by Kikki Smith and the architect Lebbeus Woods to help realize a work they had designed for the biennial SnowShow in Rovaniemi, Finland, in 2005. We were also hired to execute the work on site. Conceived as a light drawing in the surface of the permafrost we chose side emitting fiber optic cables and froze them into hand cut channels in the ice. Kikki's drawings were laser cut from sheets of aluminum and then layered between the light cables, frozen into place by water sprayed over the work by the Rovaniemi Fire department.
